Vintage Watch Condition Examination
This Rolex GMT-Master 1675 is in great vintage condition, displaying a wonderful balance of age and preservation. The case remains strong with typical signs of wear, while the bezel has kept its sharpness, with the red-back bezel showing a gentle fade that adds character. The correct date wheel with closed 6s and hooked 7s has been retained, further adding to the authenticity of the piece.
The dial remains glossy with some light patina and wear that is subtle and varies with lighting. The lume on the dial has aged beautifully, developing a lovely beige/yellow color that complements the vintage look. The hands have also aged, with the lume on them turning a pale yellow, slightly lighter than the dial lume, which is typical for this model. Some dark patina has developed around the edges of the hands’ lume, enhancing its unique character. The USA-sourced Jubilee bracelet is in great condition, with minor stretch between the links, common for this type of bracelet.
Description: Rolex GMT-Master 1675
Introduced in 1955, the Rolex GMT-Master quickly became a renowned pilot’s watch, offering dual-time capabilities. The reference 1675, released in 1959, is a favorite among vintage Rolex collectors, distinguished by its iconic 24-hour bezel and dedicated GMT hand. This particular example from 1966 boasts a glossy dial, the last of its kind before Rolex transitioned to matte dials. Collectors refer to this dial as the “Wide Swiss” variation, thanks to the “Swiss – T < 25” text, which is spread over five minute hashmarks, unlike the typical three.
With “ROW” stamped on the movement, indicating it was made for the U.S. market, this example also features the USA oval link Jubilee bracelet, a rare and noteworthy detail. This timepiece comes directly from the family of its original owner and is ready for a new collector to appreciate its history and charm.
