Vintage Watch Condition Examination
This Rolex GMT-Master 1675 from circa 1966 is in great condition with normal signs of wear, showcasing its vintage charm. The case remains strong and retains sharp lines, while the red-back bezel has developed a beautiful fade, adding character to this iconic piece. The date wheel is a later replacement with open 6’s and 9’s. The glossy jet-black dial is in excellent shape, showing slight patina that is almost unnoticeable depending on lighting. The lume on the dial has aged to a pale yellow color, which adds to its vintage appeal. The hour and minute hands are later replacements, re-lumed to match the color of the dial’s lume, providing a seamless look. The seconds hand has a tiny pinhole in the lume. The bracelet is the original Jubilee, which shows some typical stretch between the links, but overall, it remains in great condition.
Description
The Rolex GMT-Master 1675, introduced in 1959, quickly became one of the most iconic and sought-after vintage timepieces. Recognized for its 24-hour bezel and dedicated GMT hand, this model was a pioneer in dual-time capabilities. The 1675 was also the first Rolex GMT-Master to feature crown guards, which added a distinct touch to its design. This particular example from 1966 is especially desirable, as it boasts a glossy dial, the final version of the glossy dial before Rolex transitioned to matte dials. A true collector’s piece, the GMT-Master 1675 remains an iconic representation of Rolex’s legacy in pilot watches.
